Hello!!

Well, January is kicking my butt. It's soooo cold all of the time!
We've gotten two snow storms in the last week... We probably should have been grounded for both, but we weren't :)

So last week was pretty rough for me. You may have noticed the lack of email.. Sorry. :) I have just been pretty discouraged. We are having horrible luck finding people to teach... Like we find someone with real promise and something horrible happens and then they don't want to meet with us. A girls poor heart can only take so much, ya know?

Well, Friday was our interviews with president. He lovingly chastised me for being so hard on myself. He told me that I was a good missionary and that he was proud of the work we have been able to do.
He also told me not to miss out by being ungrateful for the things we do have. I really love president. He told me all about how sister Chen is doing in Chinatown. Part of me feels like I trained her too, even though she is older than me in the mission.

Sister Orme and I have been blessed with the opportunity to go tracting a lot this week :) we tracted this really ritzy neighborhood.... Most houses had basketball courts and swimming pools in the backyard! We met this awesome guy, Rich. He tried to tell us that he doesn't have any faith, but we helped him see otherwise ;) by the time we left he had agreed to read Moroni 10 and Facebook us about it. We haven't heard anything from him yet... But there is still hope.
:)

Sunday morning our ward mission leader texted us and uninvited us from ward council because it was PEC..... So that was awesome. Our investigator texted us and told us that she wouldn't be at church right after that, so we were pretty much batting 1000. After church we went to the Gianis for dinner. He has a daughter who is in California so they were talking about sister missionaries, and how they can get into places elders can't. Brother Giani kept bringing up all of these people that have been to church more frequently since we have been here... One of them was John who I really love, but always wonder if we made any difference for him. It was a pretty big tender mercy to have someone show me exactly where we have been able to touch lives.
The work here is definitely slower than I would like, but I have seen more progression here than anywhere else.

Sister Orme is halfway done with training! It has flown by. By the time we are done with training I will have been in Middletown for 6 months and I'll have 7 ish months left on the mission. Wow. Time flies.
PS- pictures will be posted soon :)

Hello!!!

Well, I am officially frozen to the bone. It has been SO cold here! I am so glad I bought a coat when I did, I would have died!

It started snowing on Thursday, but it wasn't too bad so we went out.
By the time we got to our area the roads were white and frozen, so we didn't stay too long before we headed back to Middletown. We visited a few people here, and by 6 we were grounded. We had a dinner appointment at the bishops and he lives pretty close, so he just picked all of the missionaries up! Dinner was fun, there were two returned sisters who had served here a few years ago that were back to visit. One of them served in Olmstead so we had a lot to talk about :)

Friday we were grounded so we shoveled lots of snow in 5 degree weather. By the time we got home I felt like I had done the polar plunge three times. We got ungrounded around 5, so we got home, got warm and went to work!! We visited a less active who works on Rykers Island in the prisons there. That island was part of our zone in Olmstead and the bishop wanted us to go and visit the members that were staying there... Sketch! We didn't, of course.

Saturday I wasn't feeling well, so we didn't do a whole lot. We did go to sister fonts house for service! We sewed blankets... I had to teach the elders how to use the serger. That was an adventure :)

Sunday was... Sunday. It started to freeze and rain so the roads were super sketchy. We almost died on our way to dinner. Our cell phone didn't have service either. When we finally got to service our district leader had called us four times, left us a voicemail and texted us. Oops!! We made it there in one piece though :)

Monday was a miracle day!! We went to Port Jervis. It is as ghetto as it sounds haha. We had a media referral that lives up there and we had tried to stop by a few times but we were never able to talk with her.
Usually after a few tries you just give up, but for some reason I felt like we needed to stop by, so we did. Her name is Jill and she was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She has a friend who is a member in Jersey who referred her. She is AMAZING. She has been going through chemo, so that's why we haven't been able to reach her. She was just in between treatments when we dropped by.

We were also able to get in touch with a couple of less actives that we have never met before.., one of which isn't even on our ward list!!
It was pretty awesome. All of them were very welcoming and warm, and we'll be able to teach them over Facebook hopefully soon!

On Monday we also had to get our car fixed... It was making this horrible noise. It sounded like there was something stuck in the breaks. I'll attach a picture of our wheel... I don't even know what happened. I'm sure the guys at Firestone thought I was retarded. :)

We've seen a few other miracles this week, but I'm short on time.
Sister Orme is awesome. I love her :) she's keeping me humble. She made me ask the elders to come and change a lightbulb for us because I couldn't reach and she didn't know how. How embarrassing!! And they still haven't changed it!!

Anyways... I love you all!!

Happy New Year!

Well hello, 2014. Where the heck did you come from?! Jeez. It seems
like forever ago when I emailed you last... I can't even think of what
happened! It has been a SUPER slow week... We've tracted a lot :/
everyone is busy with family like they should be, but that makes
things super duper slow for us. I've learned a lot about the will of
our Heavenly Father and how I really am just a tool in His hands.

The rest of Christmas was fun! We spent it at some members houses and
ate way too much food... That's about all :)

We have had some good lessons this week... We met with Helen and we
were talking about obedience. I kept feeling like I needed to ask her
about the temple but it was super off topic. I finally asked her about
it and she told us that she has really wanted to go but she didn't
think she could because her husband isn't a member. Hello inspired
question :) she has a granddaughter that has done a lot of her family
temple work and Helen told us she just feels good knowing it is done.
:) she is SO awesome.

We met with Zuley yesterday and had an awesome lesson. She told us
what her life was like before the gospel... And WOW. The atonement is
real. The gospel DOES Change lives.

I am kind of at a loss as to what else to say.
